Brisbane Olympics 2032 Games Mascot Shortlist

Here’s our shortlist of potential mascots for the upcoming Brisbane Olympics. They all capture Queensland’s unique wildlife and diverse ecosystems.

• Bin Chicken (Australian White Ibis) – A cheeky, urban scavenger common in Brisbane, embodying resilience and Aussie humour.
  
• Cassowary – A vibrant, flightless bird native to Queensland’s rainforests. It showcases the region’s biodiversity and fierce spirit.
  
• Drop Bear – A mythical and mischievous carnivorous koala from local folklore. Ideal for a playful Queensland mascot.
  
• Dugong – A gentle, marine mammal found in Queensland’s coastal waters. This marine mammal symbolizes tranquillity and the Great Barrier Reef’s ecological significance. It is considered vulnerable due to threats like habitat loss and hunting.
  
• Green Tree Python – A striking, emerald-coloured snake native to Queensland’s rainforests. It represents the region’s vibrant but elusive wildlife. These are non-venomous and live primarily in trees.
  
• Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroo – A unique, arboreal marsupial from Queensland’s Atherton Tablelands, highlighting agility and tropical forests. It carries its young in a pouch like other marsupials.
  
• Saltwater Crocodile – An iconic Queensland predator. This reptile symbolizes strength and the region’s wild coastal waterways.
  
• Wombat – A sturdy, burrowing marsupial found in parts of Queensland, representing determination and charm. It can be grumpy and nocturnal. Did you know the northern hairy-nosed wombat is one of the world’s most critically endangered species? Sadly, it is also Queensland’s most endangered mammal.

“We have been handed a gift to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032 – an event that will attract billions of viewers, millions of visitors, deliver generational economic and social benefits, and secure legacies for grassroots communities through to elite athletes,” said President Andrew Liveris.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games will be held from Friday 23 July 2032 to Sunday 8 August 2032. The Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games will follow shortly afterwards, staged from Tuesday 24 August 2032 to Sunday 5 September 2032.
