Banter Bar and Seafood is located on the corner of Main Street opposite the Pineapple Hotel.
The place has a beach summer vibe with funky music playing in the background. The modern airy Queenslander has wooden furniture and floorboards.
Motto: Beer is better with fish and chips
The menu is packed with lots of seafood options. You can start with cold oysters or a prawn cocktail or hot prawn cutlets, calamari, scallops or corn fritters. Don’t miss the optional scalloped potato or sweet potato or a range of chips.
The best value way to eat the fish is ordering it as a seafood meal. Your fish can be cooked grilled, crumbed or beer battered, with gluten-free batter available. The seafood meals are served with chips, fresh salad, delicious homemade tartar sauce (with real capers) and a slice of lemon.
Current fish options include Atlantic salmon, barramundi, cod, flake, king snapper and whiting. Salads are garden, Greek, coleslaw or Paleo superfood.
We enjoyed our snapper and cod seafood meals. The fish was a generous size and covered in a delicious batter.
Other main meal options include beef brisket burgers, old-school prawn sandwiches, posh fish finger sandwiches or chicken schnitzels.
Banter Bar and Seafood offers daily specials and deals for families, a couple or one person. There is a good-sized kid’s menu.
Be tempted by deep-fried Mars bar or an irresistible Pat and Sticks ice cream sandwich for dessert.
If you don’t mind sitting on a stool, then out the back on the deck is a lovely spot.
You’ll be spoilt for your drink choice with a fully stocked bar, including Balter and Green Beacon on-tap. Otherwise, there is a good range of wines by the glass or bottle, cider and cocktails.
Takeaway is available. Gluten-free options are available.
