Back to Birdsville by Fiona McArthur is the heart-warming, latest, rural romance by the bestselling author of As the River Rises.
Birdsville, in outback Queensland, is the most remote country town in the world with a population of 110. What the people lack in numbers, however, they make up for in community spirit.
Phoebe McFadden left her family dramas behind at age seventeen. On her Aunt’s advice, she travelled to Adelaide, where she trained as a midwife and emergency nurse. She had intended to leave Birdsville for good, but when her cousin, Scarlet, asked her to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, she couldn’t refuse.
Phoebe, now 35, realises the time has come to make her way home … and face the past!
Settling back into town with her Father, she finds herself crossing paths with Atticus Bow, the current Birdsville cop. He has grown from the skinny kid she knew into a very attractive man, but one that she refuses to acknowledge as being so!
She endeavours to keep Birdsville and its people at arm’s length, but they all begin to creep back into her heart. She soon begins to discover secrets that have been locked away for too many years. It is time to face the truth and put things right before Scarlet’s Wedding Day!
The author has beautifully described the outback and its beauty, and the long, and sometimes hazardous, drive to get there! She also goes on to paint a picture of life in Birdsville and the challenges that those who live in a remote community face every day. Also the importance of the famous Birdsville Races to that community.
A beautiful and inspiring must-read for 2024!
