Arctic is a tale of survival in the snow centred around one’s man attempt to be rescued after a plane crash.
The central character is an award-winning performance by Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One, Casino Royale, The Hunt). It is a testament to his acting abilities to sustain our interest throughout.
The film gradually builds in tension. The plot contains typical elements of a survival film – the essential hunt for water and food, a mishap over ice, a bear attack and then a potential rescue.
With the arrival of a second person (Maria Thelma Smáradóttir), the man must decide whether to remain at his camp or take the dangerous trek through the rugged mountains.
The cinematography is a highlight of the film. It must have been difficult to create many of the scenes in the minimal light and icy cold of Iceland.
Artic is an inspiring tale of heroism with breath-taking glacial scenery.
The Arctic is showing in Australian cinemas from Thursday 14 February 2019.
