Eat + Drink
My favourite place to dine out is Miss Kay’s. I always enjoy their burgers and I often try the weekly special. The Mitchelton venue has a casual laid back vibe which is perfect for catching up with friends. For special occasions, I like to dine at Montrachet in Paddington.
Weekend
My favourite thing to do on the weekend is to visit the Reading cinemas at Newmarket to see a film. They are close to home, parking is easy to find and you can get a bite to eat beforehand.
If I have time, I’ll travel further to try a new cafe or restaurant. Perhaps the venue has just opened or it’s a place recommended to us by one of our friends or readers. My husband enjoys trying new independent coffee roasters.
Shop
I don’t have a favourite shop because I love the convenience of online shopping. However, I do enjoy visiting the local markets. I love the original designs and appreciate the time it takes for someone to create a handmade item. My favourite markets are by BrisStyle and Jan Powers. I like to support local and small businesses.
Local secrets
Only a local would know how tough it is to climb up the Honeyeater Track (at Mt Coot-tha) on a Sunday morning. It’s even harder to run up and down. I like to use the bush walk as a way to measure my fitness progress.
Event
Each year I look forward to recharging the batteries on holidays. We often head to a different spot in either the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast, or further afield.
On my bucket list is attending the Noosa Food & Wine Festival, and listening to the authors at the Brisbane Writer’s Festival.
