We recently caught up with Casey Thompson from Redcliffe Dimensions, who kindly gave us an exclusive interview:
How did you get interested in 7D cinema?
My husband Adam and I were holidaying in California when we first experienced a 7D ride. We loved it so much we couldn’t believe we had not seen them in Australia before. After my second child, I was ready to get back into the workforce and hubby suggested 7D! There is nothing else like it in our area so we thought we would give it a shot, so we set up a store in Redcliffe as well as a mobile 7D cinema that allows us to service private functions, vacation and school events, and markets.
Can you describe a 7D cinema ride?
It’s a really simple process, you just come in and make your ride selection. Then you get a general safety briefing and it’s go time! The rides last between 4-10 minutes on average and vary in themes such as rollercoaster, horror, adventure, dinosaurs etc. It’s great fun for most aged from 2-80!
What’s your favourite ride?
I have a few favourites including “The Great Wall of China”, “Ghost Doll”, “Dino Safari”, and “Eagle Fortress”.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love the customer reactions! We have a camera set up inside the ride so we can see all of the fun reactions to the jump-scare moments. With all of the different special effects like the cord that tickles your leg, the ear wind that makes you jump, and the kids love the snow feature!
Can you describe a typical day?
My weekdays are spent doing the back of house stuff, (accounting, marketing, drink coffee!) as most of our customers visit on the weekends.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Being announced as finalists in three separate categories in the Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Excellence Awards! We were in the running for Visitor Experience, Innovation, and Young Entrepreneur.
Who or what inspires you?
As tacky as it sounds, my family. As well as wanting to create family-friendly entertainment, I wanted to dive into the business world for myself. I am surrounded by strong and clever women in my family who have created their own careers and proven that women can be just as successful in business while also having a family.
Do you have any predictions for the movie/VR industry?
Technology is advancing so quickly these days but I think we will see more interactive experiences combined with virtual reality. Online shopping combined with VR is something I am looking forward to!
Do you have any plans for the next 12 months?
We will look at expanding our services across multiple locations over the next couple of years with possible franchise options.
