Cinderella and Scheherazade

You only have to look at current hit TV shows Once Upon A Time and Grimm to see that fairy tales will always be popular.

The Romantic composers knew this years ago so made sure many of their large-scale classics had a liberal sprinkling of sprites, wraiths and princesses.

This Sunday’s concert features four fairy tale-inspired pieces to arouse the imagination including:

• Tchaikovsky’s elegant, lush ballet Sleeping Beauty;
• Strauss’ waltz Fairy tales from the Orient;
• Prokofiev’s irresistible Cinderella; and
• Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade (which is a must for fans of Aladdin and The Arabian Nights).

Music on Sundays is proudly supported by ABC Radio Brisbane and The Public Trustee.
